This Friday, June 2, Elizabeth II received Angela Merkel at Windsor Castle. In a video of the interview, we see family photos of the queen, including those of her grandsons Harry and William.
Out of sight, out of mind. On the occasion of a meeting with Angela Merkel, Elizabeth II lifted the veil on the decoration of Windsor Castle, this Friday June 2. In a video of the exchange, we see the German chancellor greeting the British monarch, posing side by side for the official photo. A detail of the decor attracts attention: on several tables, along the wall, rest a large number of frames, aligned side by side. Upon closer inspection, the pictures depict close members of the Queen’s family, starting with Princes William and Harry.
As our source noted this Wednesday, July 7, one of the photos shows William alongside Kate at their engagement photo shoot in London in 2010. The eldest son of Prince Charles surrounds his future wife with his arm and we can see, on Kate’s finger, the diamond sapphire ring that belonged to Diana. Prince Charles‘ other son, Harry, is also entitled to his presence on his grandmother’s shelves. His own photo, in black and white, was taken in 2004 on his 20th birthday by photographer Mario Testino.
Ties maintained despite the distance
Windsor Castle is not the only official residence to be adorned with family photos. In all her residences, Elizabeth II likes to surround herself with memories of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Last June, the Queen received Boris Johnson at Buckingham Palace. In the audience room where the British Prime Minister was, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle could be recognized in an image dated 2018.
These family photos demonstrate the Queen’s attachment to her family, starting with Harry, who has been exiled to California for over a year. Despite the tensions and distance, the Duke of Sussex and the Queen of England have kept good relations, taking care to call each other in visio on important occasions. This was notably the case during the second birthday of Archie, Meghan and Harry’s eldest child, last May.
