Princess Beatrice: This very expensive gift from the Queen that her mother Sarah Ferguson refused

In 1997, Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie were offered a home by Elizabeth II, who wanted them to move in with their mother, Sarah Ferguson. An extravagant gift that was politely refused.

A gift a little too extravagant? When her grandchildren get married, it is customary for Elizabeth II to offer them a royal home in which they can settle if they wish. Thus, after his marriage, Prince William and Kate Middleton received Amner Hall as a private residence, while Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were able to move to Frogmore Cottage, where Princess Eugenie and her husband Jack Brooksbank now live. However, as far as the latter and her sister Princess Beatrice are concerned, the Queen did not wait for their weddings to give them a proper home.

A year after the divorce of Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson in 1996, Elizabeth II offered her two little girls the sumptuous manor of Birch Hall in Surrey, so that they could live there with their mother. However, the princesses Eugenie and Beatrice, aged seven and nine at the time, never lived in the house, since Sarah Ferguson preferred to refuse the Queen’s generous offer, claiming she could not afford to maintain such an estate, which included a tennis court, a swimming pool and a small outbuilding with two bedrooms, in addition to the seven others that were in the Georgian-style house, reports The Mirror.

Does Birch Hall still belong to Elizabeth II?

Remaining empty for two years, Birch Hall mansion was finally sold by the queen for £1.5 million, who decided to put this huge sum into a trust that Princesses Eugenie and Beatrice were entitled to when they grew up. However, this refusal on the part of Sarah Ferguson is in no way beneficial to her two daughters, who did not receive royal residences after their weddings in 2018 and 2020.

Fortunately, Princess Beatrice should not have any problems regarding real estate, since she married Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi, a real estate developer from whom she is currently expecting her first child. And no doubt that the two lovers have found the perfect little nest.
