A vacation that marks a milestone

Indeed, this is the first time that the Queen of England has been to Balmoral since the death of her husband, Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, on April 9 at Windsor Castle. Fortunately, the members of the Windsor clan are taking turns throughout the summer to prevent their matriarch from feeling too much the absence of her husband … Prince William and Kate Middleton also went there with their three children. The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge went to their property Tam-Na-Ghar cottage. The property is a gift from the Queen Mother, who died in 2002, to her grandson Prince William. It is located near Birkhall, where the residence of Prince Charles and Camilla Parker-Bowles is located.

Acquired in 1897 by Prince Albert of Saxe-Coburg-Gotha, husband of Queen Victoria, Balmoral Castle has served as the royal family’s summer residence for over 150 years. Queen Elizabeth II has spent most of her summers there since she was a child. She has traditionally entertained family and friends there, hosting dances, picnics, hunting parties and horseback riding.
