Spain is in mourning. The kingdom mourns the deaths and disappearances of 21 crew members of a trawler that sank at sea in Canada. King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia paid tribute to them by attending the funeral.
At each of her outings, Letizia of Spain passes through the scanner of fashion lovers! The queen adapts her looks to the occasion and dressed entirely in black for a sad event. She presided over the funeral of the victims of a maritime drama, alongside her husband, King Felipe VI.
Friday, March 18, 2022, Letizia and Felipe VI went to Marín, in the province of Pontevedra, Galicia. The King and Queen of Spain paid tribute to the 21 sailors dead or missing at sea from the sinking of a Spanish trawler, last month off the coast of Canada. Warmly welcomed despite the circumstances, the royal couple shook hands and embraced relatives of the victims during a religious service at the Temple Novo de Santa María do Porto. Letizia and Felipe were dressed in black, the monarch in a Carolina Herrera dress and Magrit shoes, and her sovereign husband in a suit. Hundreds of people who could not enter the church watched the ceremony on a giant screen.
The Villa de Pitanxo was the name of the fishing boat. It sank on the morning of February 15, 2022, throwing its 24 crew members (16 Spaniards, five Peruvians and three Ghanaians) into the frigid sea. Rescuers rescued three freezing survivors in a lifeboat and recovered nine bodies. The 12 missing crew members were not found. Canadian rescuers ended their search after thirty-six hours, despite pleas from family members of the missing to continue the effort.
It is on this funereal note that Letizia and Felipe end their week. The mother of Princess Leonor (16 years old) and Infanta Sofia (14 years old) had kicked off the week on Tuesday, March 15, in the city of Leon, in northwestern Spain. She presided over the institutional act of the Spanish Federation of Rare Diseases, in the Auditorium Ciudad.
