But where is Charlene of Monaco? The princess was seen at Nice airport, at the end of March. Some have suggested a trip to Switzerland, for medical reasons. But according to the Corriere della Sera, the wife of Albert II would have headed for Corsica, an island where she has always liked to forget the heaviness of the protocol …
Charlene of Monaco would have gone underground. It is not only an expression. The wife of Albert II, supposedly a refugee in Roc Agel, on her return to the principality on March 12, would have finally crossed the Mediterranean to Corsica. The Italian press echoed this, including the very serious daily Corriere della Sera. Seen on the tarmac of Nice airport on March 22, the princess may never have flown to Switzerland to attend a medical appointment, as was reported at the time.
She would have preferred to take refuge on the island of Beauty, as part of a pact with her husband, Corriere della Sera believes: still recovering, the princess would have freedom of movement, before resuming his commitments. The princely palace has not reacted to this new rumor. Preoccupied by the “Dossiers du Rocher”, a campaign of destabilization that he has strongly denounced, Albert II seems to want to protect his wife from a stress compromising her return to the light.
Corsica is not an unknown destination for Charlene. Since 2015, very involved in the prevention of drowning, a tragedy that occurred during her childhood, the former South African swimmer has often organized awareness campaigns with young children on the beaches of the island. She spent the summer of 2020 on the island of Beauty to prepare physically for the Riviera Water Bike Challenge, a race on a marine bike linking Calvi to the principality, in September of the same year. Albert II came to coach her in person.
For Charlene of Monaco, “Corsica has a lot in common” with South Africa
There is also this attachment of Charlene the secret to the beauty and tranquility of the Corsican landscape. During the summer of 2020, the princess confided to our confreres of Point de vue: “Corsica has a lot in common with the country where I grew up.” More recently, in July 2021, in an article written for Paris Match, Stéphane Bern mentioned Charlene’s escapades in “a Corsican house lent by friends” or in Turkey, as soon as her schedule allowed it.
A new Riviera Water Bike Challenge has been announced, with a departure from the Monaco yacht club on June 5, by the Princess Charlene of Monaco Foundation, which is run by her brother Gareth Wittstock. If not, will the wife of Albert II show up at the start or finish line? Here again, the mystery is maintained. Even though a reappearance of the princess to launch the principality’s summer season, with its balls and concerts, is hoped for.
Some whisper that the former swimming champion could resurface alongside Albert II, from this April 13 … in New York! The Monegasque sovereign is indeed expected to be rewarded for his action in favor of the oceans. Perfect occasion for Charlene’s apnea to finally stop…
