Prince Albert II of Monaco and Sarah Ferguson together in Sweden

Prince Albert II of Monaco and the former Duchess of York were spotted together in Gothenburg, Sweden. Sarah Ferguson, former daughter-in-law of Queen Elizabeth II, presented an award to the Monegasque monarch in recognition of his fight to preserve the oceans.

Prince Albert II is the winner of the Perfect World Award 2021

Sarah Ferguson, 62, is an international ambassador for The Perfect World Foundation. This Thursday, the foundation presented for the ninth time its award, The Perfect World Award. The foundation explains that it distinguishes “an individual who has made a significant contribution to the conservation of our natural world and has helped raise global awareness of the importance of protecting our planet’s wildlife and environment to ensure a sustainable future for all its inhabitants.

That person is Prince Albert II. Through his own foundation but also through his various commitments and the way he runs his country, Prince Albert has become one of the most active world leaders in the protection of nature and in particular the oceans.

Sarah Ferguson presents the trophy to Prince Albert II of Monaco

Prince Albert II, 64 years old, received his trophy during the Arctic Ocean Gala that took place at the Gothenburg Stock Exchange on May 5, 2022. The trophy is nicknamed “the fragile rhino”. It is a representation of a rhinoceros in crystal, which refers to the fragility of the survival of the species. Sarah, Duchess of York, presented the trophy to Prince Albert II, as ambassador of the foundation.

While in Gothenburg, Prince Albert II and Sarah Ferguson also launched Project Ocean, the organization’s latest awareness campaign to spread knowledge about fishing nets and other fishing equipment lost at sea.

At the event, Prince Albert was photographed releasing a duck into the wild. This animal had been taken in and cared for after eating plastic from the ocean. Princess Charlene’s husband also planted a tree at the Gothenburg Botanical Gardens next to where Sir David Attenborough had planted the organization’s first tree, when he himself won the award in 2018.
