On 6 May, Prince Louis could make an appearance at the coronation of Charles III. For the occasion, The Princess of Wales and Prince William‘s son is expected to undergo a sartorial formality to please his grandfather, a royal expert tells OK! Magazine.
After stealing Elizabeth II’s thunder at her jubilee, will Prince Louis overshadow Charles III? On 6 May, The Princess of Wales and Prince William‘s youngest son could be attending part of his grandfather’s coronation. For the occasion, the little boy, who celebrated his fifth birthday on Sunday 23 April, may have to part with his favourite item: shorts. In summer and winter, the brother of Prince George and Princess Charlotte avoids trousers.
A look that has made the British people fall in love with him, just like Prince Louis’ jovial temperament. As Buckingham Palace tackles the finer points of the coronation, former BBC royal correspondent Jennie Bond tells OK! Magazine: “I think it’s time he wore trousers, especially for the coronation. She added: “Anything else would be weird and far too informal. I’d love to see him in a little suit when he’s five, he’d look really cute in a little suit.
Prince Louis’ shorts, “silent class markers”
According to the royal expert, his big sister could opt for “something very feminine and pretty”. “Ultimately, Louis should wear long trousers and Charlotte a smart girl’s dress, that would be the best solution,” Jennie Bond points out. Etiquette expert William Hanson tells Harper’s Bazaar that the shorts Prince Louis wears are part of the high society tradition.
“It’s very English to dress a young boy in shorts. Trousers are for older boys and men, while shorts for young boys are one of those silent class markers we have in England,” he says. Although times are slowly changing, trousers on a young boy are considered middle class, suburban. He then recalls that Princes William and Harry also often wore shorts on their official outings as children.
