Margrethe II is currently recovering from surgery after recurring back problems last February. In a press release published on March 28, the Danish court gave news of the health of the 82-year-old monarch, which leads to fear that she will be absent at the coronation of Charles III in London on May 6.

Agenda disrupted. The Danish court has reported a very bad news for Margrethe II this Tuesday, March 28. “HM The Queen’s summer cruise with the Royal Yacht Dannebrog to the Regional Municipality of Bornholm, the Ertholmene archipelago and the Municipality of Halsnæs, which was scheduled for June, has been postponed to 2024 due to the Queen’s back operation in February. For the same reason, the visit to the city of Allerød, which was to take place in May, will be postponed to the autumn of 2023” it was revealed in a statement. While the operation on His Majesty’s back was successful last February, “the rehabilitation process will continue over a longer period of time” it is stated, and its official program, “characterized by a lower than normal level of activity.”

The latest news from the palace was good, however. A return to power had even been announced on April 16, the day the monarch will celebrate her 83rd birthday. A return indeed, but which will be done very gradually. The same question is asked again: will Margrethe II be able to make the trip to London on May 6, to attend the coronation of Charles III? Her presence seems more and more uncertain. If she does not come, it is her son, Crown Prince Frederik, who should represent her. The latter already ensures the regency since the hospitalization of his mother.

Coronation of Charles III: these personalities who have confirmed their arrival

A disappointment that should pain Charles III. But it is reassured, other prominent personalities should make the trip. In Monaco, Prince Albert II and his wife Charlene have confirmed their arrival. In France, after a visit of three days postponed, Emmanuel Macron and his wife Brigitte confided that they would go to the coronation of the new British monarch, before a visit to France is rescheduled. 2,000 people should receive their invitation card, compared to 8,000 for the coronation of Elizabeth II in 1953. If they are numerous to wait with feverishness for their precious sesame, others, like Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, have not yet responded to the invitation.
