Royal Affair: Brigitte and Emmanuel Macron Score Front-Row Seats to Charles III’s Coronation

On 6 May, Brigitte and Emmanuel Macron will attend the coronation of Charles III in Westminster Abbey, London. And as reported by the Daily Mail, the presidential couple should enjoy the coronation of the King as closely as possible.

Although he was unable to welcome Charles III to France because of the tense social climate, particularly due to the adoption of the pension reform, Emmanuel Macron will be on British soil on 6 May. “I myself will be present at his invitation at the coronation ceremony”, the current occupant of the Elysée Palace announced at a press conference in Brussels last March. The French leader should therefore go to Westminster Abbey in London on the arm of his wife, Brigitte Macron, to celebrate this historic day. And the French presidential couple will have a prominent place during this event and will be able to watch closely the monarch having the crown of Saint Edward, created for the coronation of Charles I in 1661, placed on the top of his head.

Indeed, as the Daily Mail illustrated in a diagram published on Friday 28 April, Emmanuel and Brigitte Macron will be placed in the “poets’ corner”, an area of the building not far from the altar where the father of Princes William and Harry and Queen Consort Camilla Parker Bowles will be crowned. Located in the south transept of the abbey, this site was named as such because many British writers have their final resting place there, such as Geoffrey Chaucer and Charles Dickens. The successor to François Hollande and his wife will occupy this section of Westminster along with Jill Biden, without her husband, the Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, the President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen and Níkos Christodoulídis, the President of Cyprus.

Crowned heads, celebrities… where will they be placed?

Not far from Emmanuel and Brigitte Macron, just in front of the altar, the members of the British royal family will be placed, like the Prince and Princess of Wales and their children or Prince Harry. Behind them will be the crowned heads of foreign countries, such as King Felipe and Queen Letizia of Spain and Albert II of Monaco and his wife Charlene. Further inside the building, celebrities such as Katy Perry, David and Victoria Beckham and Bear Grylls will take their seats.
