Princess Eugenie’s Homesickness: Could This Be the End of Her Royal Life?

Princess Eugenie, who has lived in Portugal since 2022, is taking on more and more responsibilities within the British royal family. A role that could well bring her closer to her homeland in the months to come.

In addition to the brawls that have plagued the Windsors, such as the tensions between Harry and Meghan, the British royal family has many responsibilities, which each member shares. Prince Andrew’s eldest daughter, Princess Eugenie, is no exception. A role that the 33-year-old, born of the union of the King’s brother and Sarah Ferguson, takes very much to heart. Living in Portugal since 2022 with her husband, the princess maintains her role within her royal clan, and is even more committed than others. The young woman is reportedly taking on more tasks, according to the British media OK! quoted in L’Express.

A commitment such that the princess and her husband Jack Brooksbank are considering returning to the UK permanently, after a “gradual transition”. The princess, who says she is “happy and fulfilled” when she acts as an “ambassador for her family”, could see her role “with the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital and other worthy charities” increase in the coming months, a source told OK! An opportunity for the crowned head to establish herself within her family, but also for her sons August Philip Hawke and Ernest George Ronnie to get closer to their parents. The princess wants “her boys to spend more time with their cousins in England”.

A slimmer monarchy

As Harry and William’s cousin, Eugenie of York is increasingly involved in the royal family to support the reign of her uncle Charles III. According to OK! magazine, the slimmed-down monarchy of the King, who is married to Camilla Parker Bowles, has recently become so thin that there are no longer enough members of the royal family to control everything that goes on in such a lineage. This rift has led the princess and her elder sister Beatrice to take on more responsibilities, but it could well bring her back to her native land, as she is so “homesick when she’s away for too long”.
