Sarah Ferguson at Christmas Mass: why her appearance was a huge surprise

Several members of the British royal family attended the traditional Christmas Mass at St Mary Magdalene Church in Sandringham. The presence of the Duchess of York, Sarah Ferguson, was a surprise, according to People.

King Charles III, his wife Queen Camilla, as well as the Prince and Princess of Wales and their children, were all present at the early Christmas Mass at St Mary Magdalene Church in Sandringham on 25 December. However, one unexpected presence caught the eye of the public and the media. It was that of the Duchess of York Sarah Ferguson, who attended this official outing for the first time in around thirty years, as reported by People.

The former wife of Prince Andrew had not taken part in the Royal Family’s Christmas walk to church since the 1990s. She and King Charles III’s brother separated in 1992, before divorcing in 1996, People reported. The two former spouses have nevertheless maintained cordial ties. The parents of Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie even live in the same house, at Windsor’s Royal Lodge, according to the British media outlet.

Other members of the royal family made a notable appearance during the outing. This was the case of Prince Andrew, who also attended and who stepped down from his position in 2019 after his name was mentioned in connection with the Epstein affair, reports People.

Mike Tindall, and his wife Zara Tindall, the daughter of Princess Anne of England, as well as his children, including his daughter who was spotted holding hands with Prince Louis, were also present at the Christmas mass. As were Princess Anne, Prince Edwards and his wife Sophie, according to Vanity Fair.

  2. That is actually a photo of Sarah, The Duchess of York, with the late Queen Elizabeth II. It is not The Princess Royal (Princess Ann).
