Coronation of Charles III: the countdown has begun

Excitement is building across the Channel as the fateful date draws nearer: the coronation of Charles III will take place on May 6, 2023, precisely 100 days from Thursday, January 26.

J-100. Yes, already. What!? You don’t know what we are talking about? We’re talking about the coronation of Charles III! It is without doubt the most awaited event of 2023 by the British, the crowned heads but also by the observers of monarchies, Stéphane Bern and we admit it, too, at Gala. The festivities will take place from May 6 to 8. To wait, the official social networks of the British royal family have published, this Thursday, January 26, a visual announcing where we can read “Only 100 days left”, accompanied by a summary of the planned events.

The festivities will begin on Saturday, May 6 with a very busy day for the Firm. King Charles III and Queen Consort Camilla will be crowned at Westminster Abbey. “The Service will reflect the role of the monarch today and look to the future, while being rooted in long-standing traditions and pageantry,” the official statement promises. The royal couple will travel to this special place in the British monarchy with the king’s motorcade and then return to Buckingham Palace in the coronation procession with other members of the royal family. They will finally make an appearance on the balcony.

A special concert and a public holiday

The next day, celebrations and gatherings are planned throughout the United Kingdom for the Coronation Big Lunch, an opportunity for the British people to meet around a friendly meal.

All eyes will then turn to Windsor Castle, which is expected to put the biggest music festivals to shame. “Icons of international music and contemporary stars” are expected on stage for an exceptional concert that will be attended by some volunteers of charities sponsored by the newly crowned sovereigns but also some lucky people. A public ballot should be organized soon.

However, the highlight of the show will be the lighting up of several iconic buildings across the UK, in honour of the tradition of lighting up beacons to mark major royal events. Finally, Monday, May 8 will be a public holiday. Various events will be organized to encourage British people to volunteer.
