While they were officially there to celebrate the platinum jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II, who died on 8 September last year, they also took the opportunity to celebrate their daughter’s first birthday at Frogmore Cottage on 4 June. Following this event, which the Cambridges did not attend, an embarrassing rumour emerged: that the Queen had refused to be photographed with her great-granddaughter Lilibet Diana, who blew out her second birthday candle on Sunday 4 June. While some media have suggested that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex wanted to sell the photo to the American media, others have suggested that the request never actually took place, due to the Queen’s fragile state of health. Why the Queen has spent so little time with Lilibet Diana
For her part, Lilibet Diana, who was born on 4 June 2021, had not previously had the opportunity to meet her great-grandmother in person.
