Trooping the Colour: Notable Absences of Harry, Meghan Markle, and Andrew Raise Eyebrows

King Charles III’s inaugural Trooping the Colour ceremony took place on 17th June, but when the royal family gathered on the balcony of Buckingham Palace, only 14 members were in attendance. The conspicuous absence of certain individuals became a topic of discussion during the event.

The absence of key figures from the Trooping the Colour ceremony did not go unnoticed by the British public. On Saturday, 17th June, as the nation celebrated the Sovereign, Prince Louis’ adorable appearances brought smiles to many onlookers. While attention was drawn to Princess of Wales’s outfit and King Charles III’s emotional display, it was the absent members of the Royal Family who captured the most attention.

In 2019, the last Trooping the Colour ceremony in its traditional format was organized by Queen Elizabeth II, as the Covid-19 pandemic disrupted subsequent events. During that celebration, 42 members of the Royal Family graced the balcony of Buckingham Palace to greet the crowds. However, in 2023, when the event returned to its regular protocol, only 14 members were present. Alongside the King and Queen Consort, Prince William, Princess of Wales, and their children, the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh, the Duke of Kent, Princess Anne, and her husband, Sir Timothy Laurence were in attendance.

Noticeable Absences from the Balcony

Lady Louise and James, the children of the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh, were absent from the ceremony, despite their presence at King Charles III’s coronation. A Palace source attributed their absence to a scheduling conflict. However, the absence of Prince Andrew, Prince Harry, and Meghan Markle was particularly notable. According to the same source, only active members were invited to the event. It raises questions as to whether this new rule established by King Charles III will apply to future ceremonies as well.
