Meghan ‘made it clear’ she didn’t want help from the Countess of Wessex on adjusting to Royal life

It seems that Queen Elizabeth II suggested to Meghan Markle that Sophie Wessex could help show her the ropes of royal life when she married Prince Harry, but the actress reportedly refused.

Going from a public life as an actress to being the wife of a Prince is not easy. For this, there are mentors at Buckingham Palace. According to the book Elizabeth: An Intimate Portrait, whose author is none other than family friend Gyles Brandreth, it seems that to help the young woman navigate this new royal life, Queen Elizabeth II proposed Sophie of Wessex as a mentor. Indeed, Prince Edward’s wife had been through the transition herself and it “took her some time to find her feet after moving from a successful career in public relations to full-time royal life.”

Described as the royal family’s secret weapon, it seemed natural that Meghan Markle would be guided by the one everyone trusts. The reason Queen Elizabeth II thought of Sophie of Wessex as a mentor was because she “understood that Harry‘s wife might find it difficult to adjust to royal life to begin with. It’s very hectic, but you get used to it quickly,” explains Gyles Brandreth in his book. However, the author explains that the actress made it clear that she did not need Sophie’s help and would rely on her new husband to find her place. And so, as of 2018, Meghan Markle has taken the lead in becoming an active member of the royal family, even going so far as to leave her acting career for it.

Sophie of Wessex and Meghan Markle complicit

Despite this information, everything suggests that there are strong ties between the two women. Indeed, during the death of Queen Elizabeth II in September 2022, Sophie and Meghan rode together in the same car at the Queen’s state funeral and the procession from Buckingham Palace to Westminster Hall. Perhaps the actress has finally agreed to take the advice of Prince Edward’s wife?
