Royal Sparkle: Princess Beatrice Adorns York Tiara, a Sentimental Gift from Queen Elizabeth II to Sarah Ferguson for her Fairy-Tale Union with Prince Andrew

The Prince and Princess of Wales were not the only representatives of the British Royal Family at the wedding of Crown Prince Hussein of Jordan. Princess Beatrice also attended the wedding in Amman, giving her the opportunity to wear a tiara for the second time in her life at a public event. The Duke of York’s daughter wore the tiara her mother had received from Queen Elizabeth II on the occasion of her marriage to Prince Andrew.

Although she is a princess and the eldest daughter of Queen Elizabeth’s second son, Princess Beatrice, 34, has never had the opportunity to wear a tiara in public. Her only appearance with a tiara was on the occasion of her wedding to Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi, in July 2020. The wedding was supposed to be a major public celebration in the spring, but in the end it took place in secret, in the midst of a pandemic. At her wedding, Princess Beatrice chose to wear Queen Mary’s tiara, the same one worn by Queen Elizabeth II at her wedding in 1947.

On 1 June 2023, Princess Beatrice of York and her husband Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi attended the wedding of Crown Prince Hussein, the eldest son of King Abdullah II and Queen Rania of Jordan. For the religious ceremony, which took place in a covered garden at the Zahran Palace, the princess wore a sparkling Needle & Thread gown. After the ceremony, a reception was held at the Al Husseinyia Palace, and the day ended with a banquet and gala.

To attend the banquet, the eldest daughter of Prince Edward and Sarah Ferguson was invited to wear a tiara, like all the other princesses and queens present at the evening. Princess Beatrice wore a tiara for the second time in her life. She also wore an oriental dress by Lebanese designer Reem Acra for this part of the evening.

Fans of royal jewellery immediately recognised the tiara that Sarah Ferguson received from Queen Elizabeth II for her marriage to her second son in 1986. The jewel is therefore known as the York tiara. The then Duchess of York wore the tiara when accompanying her ex-husband to royal events.
