Unexpected Royal Twist: Harry and Meghan’s Surprise Support for Another Couple, and It’s Not Who You’d Expect!

Since moving to the US, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have had few allies in the UK. According to the Daily Express, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have nonetheless reconnected with a royal couple.

A first step towards reconciliation? Since the interview with Oprah Winfrey in March 2021, relations between the British Royal family, Prince Harry and his partner, Meghan Markle, have continued to deteriorate. Between the publication of the book The Surrogate and the documentary aired on Netflix, in which they revealed many family secrets, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have made a lot of enemies in the UK. However, it seems that Archie and Lilibet’s parents have decided to get closer to certain members of the royal family once again. And while some observers were hoping for a reconciliation with Prince William and Princess of Wales, the Sussexes have chosen a different target.

As revealed by the Daily Express on Monday 2 October, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have indeed renewed contact with Edward and Sophie, the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh. A rapprochement that royal expert Richard Fitzwilliams commented on in an exchange with our British confrères. “The relationship between the couples was not close before,” he explained, pointing out that Meghan, Harry, Edward and Sophie had never shown any animosity towards each other, however. “If the Sussexes connected with them, they would, unlike Princess Eugenie, have a real influence. Who knows what the result might be!” continued the expert. Commentator Mark Boardman, meanwhile, suggested that these exchanges with the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh could serve as a “gateway back to the royal house” for the Sussexes.

Meghan Markle and Harry would be ‘happy’ to be free from the constraints of the royal family

Even if they seem to be trying to reconnect with the royal family, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are taking full advantage of their status, far from the constraints of the Crown. According to a source close to the royal circle, who recently confided in the British press, the Sussexes even feel liberated.

“One of the reasons they seem so happy together is that they are free and clear of the yoke of the Royal Family,” explained the source, referring to the couple’s involvement in the Invictus Games 2023. He concluded: “They don’t have to worry about respecting protocol. They can be natural, hold hands and make as many affectionate gestures as they like without fear of being censored.”
